toy is part of the
Petster
electronic toy line manufactured by Axlon in
1985
.
Operation instructions: Turn the hamster on via the power switch located on its underside. Wait for the rear drive wheel to stop spinning. Place the hamster inside the clear plastic ball and connect the 2 parts of the spherical shell together. Sound activate the hamster by clapping your hands and watch it roll along inside the ball.
I tested the hamster and ball operation. The motor runs and powers the rear drive wheel. The hamster will roll along the floor under its own power. The hamster rolled the ball while inside it. The movement was slow and a bit jerky. Sometimes it needed a little nudge from behind. It seemed like the rear wheel wasn't getting enough traction. I got the best results when the line formed by connecting the 2 halves of the sphere was on a vertical axis in line with direction of forward movement.
The hamster measures approximately 6 3/4" long, 3 3/4" wide and 3 3/4" tall. It has faux fur, felt ears, thread whiskers a plastic nose and plastic eyes. The electronic and mechanical housing on the underside is made of plastic. The rear drive wheel has a rubber tread.
The two-piece clear plastic ball has an approximate diameter of 7 1/2". The ball has 2 pre-drilled holes in one of the half shells. I think it is part of the design to allow the sound activation.
The hamster is in
Very Good
condition. There are a few dark spots on its left side.
The ball is in
Very Good
condition. It has light scratches from use and is a bit cloudy/discolored from age.
Most of the hamsters you find do not come with the ball.
The electronics require 3 AA batteries. Batteries are NOT included.
